The Benefits of Postponing in OCD Self-Help
You don't have to always go cold turkey in withholding your OCD rituals. A great start is to postpone them for a designated length of time. But the essential task during that time is to notice your obsessions popping up and notice your urges to ritualize popping up, and then let them go. In other words, you can do exposure and response prevention (ERP) for a limited amount of time while you can practice releasing the negative thoughts and urges.

This video is a bit old, but the amygdala isn't a switch, it is more of a volume control...a very complex one. It can be ON just a little causing a small level of dysfunction that can be extremely damaging in the long term

Treat like a mental game you can win. Exposure WITH attitude- I want what scares me. It's an aggressive sport- you need an attacking offence; (give me 2 servings & give it to me now,!). Find uncertainty then walk on without answering question. You win game moment by moment not by thinking long term. (He's almost saying the disease is timidness and your chaotic mind takes the offense)

His book " Don't Panic" freed me of attacks entirely as I practiced it's directions. It's now 35 years later and still holds true. I highly recommend his book. Also the books of Clair Weeks.

The frontal cortex should be our filter, i.e. the filter often alluded to when one i said to have no filter -- acts before thinking. It should be made conditioned to override the atavistic impulses of the amygdala.

Thank you Dr Reid, Though I considered myself in great FREEDOM from OCD over the last years, I fell back in it during some very hard times the last few months. I want to tell you how your information is very clear and has helped me so much watching your OCD videos ‘right in the throes of that painful/threat’. I actually got so much from one of your videos on threat, it’s like, wow…it was made just for me😊I’m sure many people find your information so helpful in their lives. When anyone needs a boost or refresher, listen to Dr Reid Wilson, but, ‘we must do the work’👍

I was diagnosed with OCD since my teenage, spent my whole life fighting OCD. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until a friend recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.

I wish they were readily available in my place. Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He is 59 & has so many mental health issues plus probable CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. He's constantly talking about killing someone. He's violent. Anyone reading this Familiar w/ BPD know if it is common for an obsession with violence.

I was horrifically depressed since childhood. It was relentless. I assumed it would ultimately end me somehow. About twelve years ago I randomly accepted the offer from a friend of a few doses of mushrooms. I did them two consecutive nights alone. First night was pretty mild. The second night? Wow. I saw my depression from every angle, realized much. Next day: depression totally gone. Never came back, never coming back. It's like it's a forest far away I can remember, and could probably find again with enough effort, but it has zero impact on anything in my life or mind. They honestly saved my life and improved it immensely. I never did them again, either. I wish there was a good, organized way to administer them to people who would benefit from them.

There are some activities that are pleasurable and others that allow for intrusive thoughts. Realistically only probably a quarter of a percentage of people do not spend a lot of time entertaining themselves in one way or the other. But most people also do not spend all their time entertaining or distracting themselves. I think the idea of being responsible is scary, and that talking or watching these types of video can cause anxiety. However realistically entertaining though the high contracts and guilt might drive someone towards doing things that are more comfortable more of the time. A way to break this up is to set a timer for ten minutes during the time you are entertaining yourself and do 1 minute of things that are intrusive. A pain in the butt? No maybe not...as the neural chemicals levels in the brain do tend to level out. And spending one minute a in ten doing something negative is not all that bad...the brain can get used to interruptions.
